Plan the power and the air conditioning before the walls close up

An extension, a kitchen renovation or a knock down rebuild is the easiest time to get the wiring and the heating and cooling right. Cabling and ducts go in cleanly while the frame is open. Doing it later costs more and looks worse.

Black three-blade ceiling fan on a ceiling with LED downlights and ducted outlets

You want the rough in done on time so the plasterer isn't held up, and a finished job that looks tidy.

TimingScheduled around your builder's stages, from rough in to fit off.

    Work we usually do

    • Rewiring for renovations and extensions
    • Switchboard upgrades to handle the added load
    • Power point, data and lighting layouts
    • LED downlights, pendants and outdoor lighting
    • Oven, cooktop and rangehood connections
    • Ducted, split and multi head systems planned with the layout
    • Ductwork design and zoning
    • EV charger and heat pump hot water provisions

Where it goes wrong with the wrong contractor

Air conditioning left until the end
If nobody plans where the ducts, pipework and outdoor unit go, you end up with visible pipe runs or a system that doesn't suit the new rooms. It's better planned at the drawings stage.
The old board can't take the new load
A new kitchen, a ducted system and an EV charger can add a lot of load. Checking the switchboard and supply early avoids a surprise upgrade at the end.
    Holding up the next trade
If the rough in is late, the plasterer waits and the whole schedule slips. We book our stages with your builder so the next trade can start on time.

    How it works

    1. 1

      Look at the plans

Send us the drawings or walk us through the space. We work out where power, lighting and heating and cooling should go.

    2. 2

      Upfront quote by stage

You get a fixed price that covers rough in, fit off and any system supply, so you know the cost before work starts.

    3. 3

Rough in with the frame open

Cables, ducts and pipework go in while walls and ceilings are open, coordinated with your builder.

    4. 4

      Fit off and hand over

We install fittings and systems, test everything, show you how the controls work and leave the site clean.

    Services that come up most

    Common questions

As early as possible, ideally before the plans are final. That leaves room to place ducts, outdoor units and power where they suit the finished rooms.

    • Couldn't be happier with Total Comfort Electrical & Air. I had a few quotes for the same job, but found some were extremely overpriced and others were quite pushy without really explaining why the work needed to be done. Aaron was completely different. He took his time, explained the job in detail, gave me more than one option and made sure I actually understood what I was paying for. He was extremely easy to deal with, did a great job and left everything clean and tidy. His price was competitive and the quality of the work was fantastic. It's honestly great to find a reliable tradesman who you can trust. Would definitely recommend Aaron and Total Comfort Electrical & Air!

    • Aaron was exceptional, I couldn't recommend him highly enough! He recently did some work at our house and was knowledgeable, tidy and genuinely lovely to have around. Our three year old followed him around for practically the entire day, and he was so patient and kind, happily chatting with her while he worked. We're so happy with everything he did and wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

    • Fantastic job today. Aaron arrived on time (was accurate in how long it would take), very professional, explaining everything as he went. Gave me extra tips on what to do in the future with my appliances. Best of all, he did a really good job (and really nice bloke). Would highly recommend.

    • Aaron did a great job of replacing a faultilt installed aircon on a 3 story townhouse. This wasn't a straightforward install given the property & there were suspected old leaks and further tests had to be done. He has many years of experience and talks you through it, manages the process and manages the expectations, timing delivery etc of more complex issues. He's really knowledgeable at what he does, and I got a free consult generally on my home and what would increase efficiencies in my home across the board. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, for the attention to detail and care you put into the work.

    • Aaron simply came to my rental to quote an exhaust fan. I was impressed by his explanations and honesty. He took the time to explain all facets of the task. I ended up asking him to install/service more than just an exhaust fan!

    • Aaron was super professional, did a fantastic job fixing my switchboard which was left in a complete mess by the solar / battery installers. Also installed an EV Charger, ceiling fans and replaced a split system. He didn't rush any part of the electrical works and was completely thorough and asked where and how I wanted everything installed.
