    The local picture

    Work that fits your property

Tarneit is one of Wyndham’s big growth suburbs: street after street of family homes, with more new housing still planned. Most electrical and comfort jobs here come back to one question. Can a house built on a builder’s standard package carry what the family now wants to add, from an EV charger and an induction cooktop to ducted reverse-cycle air? Total Comfort is family-run and based in Altona Meadows, and one local team handles the electrical, heating and cooling, so the switchboard and supply get checked once, before anything is ordered.

Every installation is different. We start with the symptoms, existing equipment and access, then explain the work needed and the options available.

    Homes in Tarneit

    Earlier estate homes

The first waves of Tarneit estates are mostly single-storey brick veneer on standard estate blocks. Many were built with gas ducted heating, an evaporative cooler on the roof, a switchboard with few spare spaces and only the power points the base package included. Homes built after 1 August 1997 must have mains-powered smoke alarms with a backup battery, and alarms are generally replaced after ten years, so the originals are worth checking. More outlets in the kitchen, family room and garage usually follow.

    Double-storey family homes

Newer streets lean towards larger double-storey homes with open-plan living, a theatre or rumpus room and an alfresco. Ducted heating and cooling is often there from the start, the board is bigger, and homes built or extended after 1 May 2014 need interconnected hard-wired smoke alarms, so every alarm sounds together. The work here is about adding rather than fixing: a circuit for a charger in the garage, induction in place of a gas cooktop, or a second system for the upstairs bedrooms.

Townhouses near the station and shops

Townhouses and smaller lots near the station and shopping centres bring different limits. Switchboards are compact, the outdoor unit for an air conditioner has to fit a narrow side path or a wall bracket, and cable runs between floors can be tight. Where there is an owners corporation, it may need to approve anything fixed to the outside of the building, so ask before an installation is booked.

    Heating and cooling in Tarneit

Plenty of Tarneit homes still run the original pairing of gas ducted heating and evaporative cooling. Evaporative coolers work well in low humidity and struggle on muggy summer days, and Energy Safe Victoria recommends servicing ducted gas heaters every two years. When one of those systems gives out, many owners move to ducted reverse-cycle, which heats and cools through one set of ducts. We check the switchboard, the ceiling space and the zoning before recommending a size.

    Local notes

    Young households in detached homes

At the 2021 Census, Tarneit had 56,370 residents with a median age of 30. Separate houses made up 89.5% of its occupied private dwellings, against 73.4% across Victoria. That points to young families in detached homes, and to a lot of added load over time: more air conditioning, a garage fridge, a pool pump or an electric car.

    Powercor runs the network here

Powercor’s planning reports list Tarneit among the areas supplied by its Truganina zone substation and by Altona Terminal Station (West). From the point of supply onwards, the installation is the owner’s responsibility, and Powercor lists a loose or missing service hook and a damaged meter box as customer defects. Energy Safe Victoria says fallen or unsafe powerlines go to your local electricity distribution company, which here is Powercor, so keep well clear and report them there.

    New streets still going in

In Wyndham, new housing is planned in the residential growth areas of Tarneit, Truganina, Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes, so many Tarneit homes are recent builds. Keep the builder's electrical plan and air conditioning details, because they show what the board was designed to carry. If the home has solar or a battery, mention it when you enquire: an inverter and battery change how circuits are isolated at the board.

Local information and practical answers before you arrange a visit.

Often, yes, but it depends on the supply and the switchboard rather than the size of the house. Most home chargers run on single-phase power, while the fastest 22 kW units need three-phase, which is when a three-phase upgrade can make sense. We add up what the house already runs, check the main switch and spare spaces, and tell you plainly if the board or supply needs work first.

    • Couldn't be happier with Total Comfort Electrical & Air. I had a few quotes for the same job, but found some were extremely overpriced and others were quite pushy without really explaining why the work needed to be done. Aaron was completely different. He took his time, explained the job in detail, gave me more than one option and made sure I actually understood what I was paying for. He was extremely easy to deal with, did a great job and left everything clean and tidy. His price was competitive and the quality of the work was fantastic. It's honestly great to find a reliable tradesman who you can trust. Would definitely recommend Aaron and Total Comfort Electrical & Air!

    • Aaron was exceptional, I couldn't recommend him highly enough! He recently did some work at our house and was knowledgeable, tidy and genuinely lovely to have around. Our three year old followed him around for practically the entire day, and he was so patient and kind, happily chatting with her while he worked. We're so happy with everything he did and wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

    • Fantastic job today. Aaron arrived on time (was accurate in how long it would take), very professional, explaining everything as he went. Gave me extra tips on what to do in the future with my appliances. Best of all, he did a really good job (and really nice bloke). Would highly recommend.

    • Aaron did a great job of replacing a faultilt installed aircon on a 3 story townhouse. This wasn't a straightforward install given the property & there were suspected old leaks and further tests had to be done. He has many years of experience and talks you through it, manages the process and manages the expectations, timing delivery etc of more complex issues. He's really knowledgeable at what he does, and I got a free consult generally on my home and what would increase efficiencies in my home across the board. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, for the attention to detail and care you put into the work.

    • Aaron was super professional, did a fantastic job fixing my switchboard which was left in a complete mess by the solar / battery installers. Also installed an EV Charger, ceiling fans and replaced a split system. He didn't rush any part of the electrical works and was completely thorough and asked where and how I wanted everything installed.
