    The local picture

    Work that fits your property

Derrimut is one of Brimbank's newer suburbs: housing estates built since the 2000s, townhouses on the tighter lots, and a large industrial and logistics area alongside. Newer doesn't mean nothing to do. In the first estates, the original smoke alarms, and in many homes the heating and cooling, have been working for years. A garage charger or an induction cooktop can also stretch a board that was sized for the house as it was handed over. On the industrial side, the questions are about lighting, equipment circuits and when the power can go off. Total Comfort is one local team for electrical, heating and cooling, based in Altona Meadows.

Every installation is different. We start with the symptoms, existing equipment and access, then explain the work needed and the options available.

    Homes in Derrimut

    The first estate homes

Houses from the 2000s and early 2010s were built with a modern board and circuit breakers, and Energy Safe Victoria says a safety switch is now compulsory on new residential installations. Because they came after 1 August 1997, they also had to have hard-wired smoke alarms with a backup battery. The Building and Plumbing Commission advises replacing alarms generally after ten years, and Fire Rescue Victoria's summary says homes built, largely renovated or extended after 1 May 2014 need interconnected alarms. So an early estate home can easily have original alarms that are past their date and sound one at a time.

    Later stages and townhouses

Townhouses and homes on the smaller lots sit close together. Side setbacks can be narrow, so an outdoor air-conditioning unit has to go where it can breathe, drain and be serviced without sitting under a neighbour's window. Two-storey townhouses often rely on one split downstairs, and the upstairs bedrooms are the ones that cook on a hot night. Where an owners corporation manages the site, check its rules on external equipment before you pick a spot.

    Warehouses and logistics sites

Derrimut's industrial side is a different kind of job. A warehouse office, loading dock or workshop might need brighter LED lighting, flood or sensor lights over a yard, or a dedicated circuit for a new machine. Tell us what the site does, the equipment involved and when the power can and can't go off. We confirm whether the job suits our team, and agree any shutdown timing, before work starts.

    Heating and cooling in Derrimut

Many Derrimut estate homes were handed over with gas ducted heating and an evaporative cooler on the roof, sometimes with a split added later for the main bedroom. Energy Safe Victoria recommends servicing ducted gas heaters every two years, with a carbon monoxide test at the vents in every room. Evaporative cooling works best in low humidity, so it fades on muggy summer days. When either system is due for replacement, reverse-cycle ducted can take over both jobs from one outdoor unit.

    Local notes

    Brimbank's newer housing

Derrimut is in the City of Brimbank. A Victorian Electoral Commission fact sheet on the municipality groups it with Cairnlea, Sydenham and Hillside as more recently developed suburbs with contemporary housing, while pre- and post-war homes characterise Sunshine, St Albans and Deer Park. For a Derrimut home, the conversation usually starts with board capacity, alarm dates and ageing heating and cooling rather than old rubber wiring.

    Summer peaks at Laverton

The Bureau of Meteorology's weather station at Laverton, south of Derrimut, averages 27.0 days a year at or above 30 °C and 9.4 days at or above 35 °C, mostly from December to February. Its hottest day on record reached 47.5 °C on 7 February 2009, and its January record of 45.6 °C was set on 27 January 2026. An ageing cooler or an undersized split shows its limits on those days, so we size and service for the peaks, not the average.

Local information and practical answers before you arrange a visit.

If they're the originals, very likely. The Building and Plumbing Commission advises replacing smoke alarms according to the manufacturer's specifications, generally after ten years, and new units carry an expiry date under the battery. Hard-wired alarms have to be installed by a qualified electrician, although anyone can change a battery. We replace them on the existing wiring and can link them so every alarm sounds when one does.

    • Couldn't be happier with Total Comfort Electrical & Air. I had a few quotes for the same job, but found some were extremely overpriced and others were quite pushy without really explaining why the work needed to be done. Aaron was completely different. He took his time, explained the job in detail, gave me more than one option and made sure I actually understood what I was paying for. He was extremely easy to deal with, did a great job and left everything clean and tidy. His price was competitive and the quality of the work was fantastic. It's honestly great to find a reliable tradesman who you can trust. Would definitely recommend Aaron and Total Comfort Electrical & Air!

    • 10/10 experience with these guys. Aaron did a fantastic job with the electrical work at my property and even gave me some spare light bulbs. He's a true gentleman and absolutely fantastic with kids. My daughter was so impressed she now wants to be an electrician! 😂 Highly recommend Aaron and the team!

    • Aaron was exceptional, I couldn't recommend him highly enough! He recently did some work at our house and was knowledgeable, tidy and genuinely lovely to have around. Our three year old followed him around for practically the entire day, and he was so patient and kind, happily chatting with her while he worked. We're so happy with everything he did and wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

    • Fantastic job today. Aaron arrived on time (was accurate in how long it would take), very professional, explaining everything as he went. Gave me extra tips on what to do in the future with my appliances. Best of all, he did a really good job (and really nice bloke). Would highly recommend.

    • Aaron did a great job of replacing a faultilt installed aircon on a 3 story townhouse. This wasn't a straightforward install given the property & there were suspected old leaks and further tests had to be done. He has many years of experience and talks you through it, manages the process and manages the expectations, timing delivery etc of more complex issues. He's really knowledgeable at what he does, and I got a free consult generally on my home and what would increase efficiencies in my home across the board. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, for the attention to detail and care you put into the work.

    • Aaron simply came to my rental to quote an exhaust fan. I was impressed by his explanations and honesty. He took the time to explain all facets of the task. I ended up asking him to install/service more than just an exhaust fan!

    • Aaron was super professional, did a fantastic job fixing my switchboard which was left in a complete mess by the solar / battery installers. Also installed an EV Charger, ceiling fans and replaced a split system. He didn't rush any part of the electrical works and was completely thorough and asked where and how I wanted everything installed.
