    The local picture

    Work that fits your property

Werribee's housing spans several eras. Near the town centre there are post-war houses, many renovated more than once. Around them sit brick homes from the 1970s to the 1990s, and newer estates fill the edges. For an electrician that spread matters. A new split system in the lounge might be a simple circuit off a modern board in one street and a switchboard upgrade in the next. Total Comfort handles the wiring and the heating and cooling as one job, so we look at the whole house before we quote.

Every installation is different. We start with the symptoms, existing equipment and access, then explain the work needed and the options available.

    Homes in Werribee

Post-war houses near the town centre

Most are modest single-storey houses that have been added to over the decades. Behind the meter box you may still find ceramic fuses on a timber or black pitch panel, and WorkSafe Victoria lists ceramic fuses and pitch-based switchboards among materials that can contain asbestos, so an original board is handled with care, never drilled or cut casually. Wiring of this age has often been extended piece by piece, with extra points hung off old circuits. Energy Safe Victoria says a home built before the 1980s should have its wiring checked before you move in, and it is worth doing before any big appliance goes on as well.

    1970s to 1990s brick homes

These make up a lot of Werribee's established streets. The cabling is usually sheathed TPS that has aged reasonably well, so the switchboard tends to be the weak point: one safety switch on the power circuits, lights left without one, and no spare room for a new circuit. When a switchboard is replaced, the Wiring Rules require RCD protection on every final subcircuit, so an upgrade lifts the whole house to that standard. Homes built before 1 August 1997 are allowed battery smoke alarms, and plenty of houses from this period still rely on them.

    Newer estates on the edges

Homes built after 1 August 1997 must have mains-powered smoke alarms with a backup battery, and estate houses went up with modern boards, so the basics are usually in place. The questions here are about capacity and layout. Is there room on the board for an induction cooktop or a charger? Where can a second outdoor unit sit on a narrow side setback? How do you get power to a patio or shed the builder left bare? Those are answered on site, with the board open and the load worked out.

    Heating and cooling in Werribee

Victorian homes usually use more energy for heating than cooling, and Werribee is no different. Many brick homes here run gas ducted heating through the roof, often with an evaporative cooler added later. Post-war houses more often have a gas wall or space heater and a split system in the living area. Energy Safe Victoria recommends servicing ducted gas heaters every two years, with a carbon monoxide test at every vent. Moving to reverse-cycle? We check the switchboard first.

    Local notes

A City of Wyndham suburb of 50,027 people

Werribee is one of the suburbs in the City of Wyndham, alongside Hoppers Crossing, Point Cook, Tarneit and Wyndham Vale. At the 2021 Census it had 50,027 residents and a median age of 35. A suburb that size covers a wide range of housing, so we make no assumptions about a Werribee property until we have seen the board.

    Powercor's network

Werribee is listed in the area supplied from Powercor's Altona Terminal Station (West), which serves part of Melbourne's western growth corridor. Energy Safe Victoria says fallen lines and damaged poles go to your local electricity distribution company, which here is Powercor, so keep well clear and report them there. From the point of supply into your property, the installation is the owner's responsibility, and that is the part a licensed electrician works on.

Local information and practical answers before you arrange a visit.

In most cases, yes. An old fuse board has no sensible way to add safety switches to every circuit, and when a switchboard is replaced the Wiring Rules require RCD protection on all final subcircuits. We also check the panel behind the fuses before any work starts, because WorkSafe Victoria lists ceramic fuses and pitch-based boards among materials that can contain asbestos. • Couldn't be happier with Total Comfort Electrical & Air. I had a few quotes for the same job, but found some were extremely overpriced and others were quite pushy without really explaining why the work needed to be done. Aaron was completely different. He took his time, explained the job in detail, gave me more than one option and made sure I actually understood what I was paying for. He was extremely easy to deal with, did a great job and left everything clean and tidy. His price was competitive and the quality of the work was fantastic. It's honestly great to find a reliable tradesman who you can trust. Would definitely recommend Aaron and Total Comfort Electrical & Air!

    • Aaron was exceptional, I couldn't recommend him highly enough! He recently did some work at our house and was knowledgeable, tidy and genuinely lovely to have around. Our three year old followed him around for practically the entire day, and he was so patient and kind, happily chatting with her while he worked. We're so happy with everything he did and wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

    • Fantastic job today. Aaron arrived on time (was accurate in how long it would take), very professional, explaining everything as he went. Gave me extra tips on what to do in the future with my appliances. Best of all, he did a really good job (and really nice bloke). Would highly recommend.

    • Aaron did a great job of replacing a faultilt installed aircon on a 3 story townhouse. This wasn't a straightforward install given the property & there were suspected old leaks and further tests had to be done. He has many years of experience and talks you through it, manages the process and manages the expectations, timing delivery etc of more complex issues. He's really knowledgeable at what he does, and I got a free consult generally on my home and what would increase efficiencies in my home across the board. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, for the attention to detail and care you put into the work.

    • Aaron was super professional, did a fantastic job fixing my switchboard which was left in a complete mess by the solar / battery installers. Also installed an EV Charger, ceiling fans and replaced a split system. He didn't rush any part of the electrical works and was completely thorough and asked where and how I wanted everything installed.
