    The local picture

    Work that fits your property

Cairnlea is a planned suburb in the City of Brimbank, laid out around lakes, parkland and a local shopping centre. Its housing is newer than neighbouring Deer Park's: double-storey family homes, single-storey estate homes and townhouses. In homes like these, the questions are more often about comfort and fit-out than old wiring. Why do the upstairs bedrooms overheat while the lounge stays cool? Can the ducted system stop running every room at once? Can a fan or downlights go into a ceiling with a bedroom above it? Total Comfort answers the electrical and the heating and cooling side together.

Every installation is different. We start with the symptoms, existing equipment and access, then explain the work needed and the options available.

    Homes in Cairnlea

    Double-storey family homes

Warm air rises through the stairwell, so upstairs bedrooms run hot on summer evenings while the living areas below can feel cool in winter. Where one ducted unit serves both floors from a single controller, it chases whichever floor the controller sits on and leaves the other one out. The ground-floor ceiling brings its own problem for electrical work: it sits under the upstairs floor, so there is no roof space above it for running cable or fixing a fan. Tell us which floor the work is on and whether there is a manhole, bulkhead or wall cavity nearby.

    Single-storey estate homes

A single-storey home is the easier case, because the roof space is open above every room. New downlights, a ceiling fan, extra zones or a smart controller can usually be fitted from above with very little patching. What needs checking is what is already up there: ducting in the path, and whether insulation has been pulled back from old halogen downlights. Original low-voltage halogens are worth replacing as whole fittings with integrated LEDs, not just new globes.

    Townhouses

Townhouses have compact roof spaces, shared walls and small courtyards, which leaves fewer places for an outdoor unit and fewer routes for pipework and cable. Separate split systems, or a multi-head system with one outdoor unit serving several rooms, often fit better than full ducting. An owners corporation may need to approve anything on the outside of the building, so check that before choosing where the outdoor unit goes.

    Heating and cooling in Cairnlea

Comfort in Cairnlea is mostly a question of control. A ducted system without zones conditions the whole house every time it runs, and the Victorian Government recommends zones so living areas and bedrooms can be heated or cooled on their own. In a double-storey home, separating upstairs from downstairs is the first step. Ceiling fans help in both seasons: in summer they let you set the cooling a little higher, and in winter a slow reverse setting brings warm air back down from the ceiling.

    Local notes

    The newer side of Brimbank

Cairnlea is in the City of Brimbank, which also takes in Deer Park, Ardeer and Albion. A Victorian Electoral Commission fact sheet on Brimbank groups Cairnlea with Sydenham, Hillside and Derrimut as more recently developed suburbs with more contemporary housing, as distinct from established suburbs such as Deer Park. In practice, that tends to shift the work away from replacing old wiring and towards adding to, and controlling, what is already there.

Hot days and heat health warnings

The Bureau of Meteorology's Laverton station, with records going back to 1943, averages 27 days a year at or above 30 °C and 9.4 at or above 35 °C, most of them between December and February. Brimbank is in the Central district for the Department of Health's heat health warnings, which are issued in response to a Bureau severe or extreme heatwave warning. In a double-storey home, those are the days when upstairs bedrooms test whether the cooling has been zoned and sized properly.

Local information and practical answers before you arrange a visit.

Not necessarily. On a single zone with one controller, a system in a two-storey house keeps chasing the floor where the controller sits. Before suggesting a bigger unit, we check the outlet positions, the return air, the duct condition and the controller location. The Victorian Government's guide of 1.1 to 1.4 kW of heating output for every 10 m² covered gives a rough check on sizing. Separate upstairs and downstairs zones often fix it; sometimes a split system upstairs is the better answer.

    • Couldn't be happier with Total Comfort Electrical & Air. I had a few quotes for the same job, but found some were extremely overpriced and others were quite pushy without really explaining why the work needed to be done. Aaron was completely different. He took his time, explained the job in detail, gave me more than one option and made sure I actually understood what I was paying for. He was extremely easy to deal with, did a great job and left everything clean and tidy. His price was competitive and the quality of the work was fantastic. It's honestly great to find a reliable tradesman who you can trust. Would definitely recommend Aaron and Total Comfort Electrical & Air!

    • Aaron was exceptional, I couldn't recommend him highly enough! He recently did some work at our house and was knowledgeable, tidy and genuinely lovely to have around. Our three year old followed him around for practically the entire day, and he was so patient and kind, happily chatting with her while he worked. We're so happy with everything he did and wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

    • Fantastic job today. Aaron arrived on time (was accurate in how long it would take), very professional, explaining everything as he went. Gave me extra tips on what to do in the future with my appliances. Best of all, he did a really good job (and really nice bloke). Would highly recommend.

    • Aaron did a great job of replacing a faultilt installed aircon on a 3 story townhouse. This wasn't a straightforward install given the property & there were suspected old leaks and further tests had to be done. He has many years of experience and talks you through it, manages the process and manages the expectations, timing delivery etc of more complex issues. He's really knowledgeable at what he does, and I got a free consult generally on my home and what would increase efficiencies in my home across the board. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, for the attention to detail and care you put into the work.

    • Aaron was super professional, did a fantastic job fixing my switchboard which was left in a complete mess by the solar / battery installers. Also installed an EV Charger, ceiling fans and replaced a split system. He didn't rush any part of the electrical works and was completely thorough and asked where and how I wanted everything installed.
