    The local picture

    Work that fits your property

Truganina asks two different things of an electrician. Its estate streets run from earlier stages built around gas heating and cooking to newer homes built all-electric, while its logistics precincts hold warehouses and business premises with a different set of needs again. The suburb also straddles a council boundary, with part in Wyndham and part in Melton. When you enquire, give the full address and say whether it's a home or a business, so the right visit gets planned from the start. Total Comfort is family-run and based in Altona Meadows, with one local team for electrical, heating and cooling.

Every installation is different. We start with the symptoms, existing equipment and access, then explain the work needed and the options available.

    Homes in Truganina

    Estate homes built around gas

In the earlier estate stages, gas did the heavy lifting: ducted heating in the roof, a gas cooktop and gas hot water on an outside wall. The switchboard was sized to match, with circuit breakers, safety switches, a modest main switch and a few spare spaces, enough for lights, power points and perhaps one air conditioner. Since then most of these homes have gained split systems, a garage fridge and more in the kitchen. Every gas appliance that later goes electric moves more load onto that same board, so we check the main switch, the spare spaces and how circuits are shared before anything new is ordered.

    Newer homes with no gas

Since 1 January 2024, new homes that need a planning permit have had to be all-electric, and planning clause 53.03 stops a permit being granted for a gas connection when land is subdivided for housing. Where a newer Truganina home was built under those rules, heating, cooling, hot water and cooking all run from the switchboard. Most household appliances run on single-phase power, but the load adds up. The pinch point is a winter evening, when reverse-cycle heating, an induction cooktop and the hot water can all be running together, so the main switch rating and spare board space matter before a car charger is added. In a larger home with several big loads, a three-phase upgrade can make sense.

    Warehouses and business premises

Truganina's logistics precincts are a different kind of job. Warehouses commonly run on three-phase supply, with long rows of high-bay lights, roller doors and equipment that can't simply be switched off mid-shift. The useful work there is practical: tracing a fault that keeps tripping, replacing failed lighting, adding a circuit for new equipment and keeping the office air conditioning up to the job. Tell us the operating hours, who can approve a shutdown and any site induction rules. When electrical installation work is finished, Energy Safe Victoria requires the electrician to provide a Certificate of Electrical Safety.

    Heating and cooling in Truganina

Comfort here splits along the same line as the housing. Earlier-stage homes usually heat with gas ducted and cool with whatever was added later, often an evaporative unit on the roof or a split in the family room. Newer homes tend to start with reverse-cycle, ducted or split. In both, the hardest room is the open-plan living area with a wide glass door to the alfresco. It gains heat quickly on a hot northerly afternoon and loses it just as quickly on a still winter night.

    Local notes

    One suburb, two councils

Truganina is split between two councils. The City of Wyndham and the City of Melton both list it as a part suburb in their community profiles, so which council you deal with depends on your street. Planning and building questions go to the council that covers your address. For heat health warnings the split makes no difference: Wyndham and Melton both sit in the Central forecast district, and the Department of Health issues a warning in response to a new Bureau severe or extreme heatwave warning.

    Still a growth area

A Victorian Electoral Commission fact sheet on Wyndham names Truganina, along with Tarneit, Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes, among the residential growth areas where new housing developments are planned. If you're building, the easiest time to add a circuit, a conduit to the garage or a marked spot for an outdoor unit is before the plaster, paving and fences go in. Ask your builder for the as-built electrical plan at handover and keep it with the house papers.

A zone substation with the suburb's name

Powercor's distribution planning report names Truganina among the areas supplied by its Truganina (TNA) zone substation, which is fed from Deer Park Terminal Station and also supplies Caroline Springs, Tarneit and Laverton North. If your lights go dull or flicker across the house, or you have a brownout or partial supply, don't touch the switchboard or anything metal, turn off what's easy to reach and contact Powercor, because the problem may be on the network side.

Local information and practical answers before you arrange a visit.

Usually because it's doing its job. Safety switches are compulsory on new residential installations, and the Wiring Rules require every final sub-circuit in a home to be protected by one, so a fault almost anywhere in a newer house shows up at the board. Common causes are water in an outdoor power point or garden light after rain, a failing appliance, or a fitting or circuit added since handover. Reset it once. If it trips again, leave it off, note what was running and what the weather was doing, and we'll trace it with proper testing.

    • Couldn't be happier with Total Comfort Electrical & Air. I had a few quotes for the same job, but found some were extremely overpriced and others were quite pushy without really explaining why the work needed to be done. Aaron was completely different. He took his time, explained the job in detail, gave me more than one option and made sure I actually understood what I was paying for. He was extremely easy to deal with, did a great job and left everything clean and tidy. His price was competitive and the quality of the work was fantastic. It's honestly great to find a reliable tradesman who you can trust. Would definitely recommend Aaron and Total Comfort Electrical & Air!

    • Aaron was exceptional, I couldn't recommend him highly enough! He recently did some work at our house and was knowledgeable, tidy and genuinely lovely to have around. Our three year old followed him around for practically the entire day, and he was so patient and kind, happily chatting with her while he worked. We're so happy with everything he did and wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

    • Fantastic job today. Aaron arrived on time (was accurate in how long it would take), very professional, explaining everything as he went. Gave me extra tips on what to do in the future with my appliances. Best of all, he did a really good job (and really nice bloke). Would highly recommend.

    • Aaron did a great job of replacing a faultilt installed aircon on a 3 story townhouse. This wasn't a straightforward install given the property & there were suspected old leaks and further tests had to be done. He has many years of experience and talks you through it, manages the process and manages the expectations, timing delivery etc of more complex issues. He's really knowledgeable at what he does, and I got a free consult generally on my home and what would increase efficiencies in my home across the board. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, for the attention to detail and care you put into the work.

    • Aaron was super professional, did a fantastic job fixing my switchboard which was left in a complete mess by the solar / battery installers. Also installed an EV Charger, ceiling fans and replaced a split system. He didn't rush any part of the electrical works and was completely thorough and asked where and how I wanted everything installed.
