    The local picture

    Work that fits your property

Sunshine North stretches north of Sunshine, with established residential streets on one side and employment land on the other. Plenty of the houses are on their second or third round of changes: a kitchen redone, a room added at the back, or the whole block cleared for townhouses. Renovations are where planning pays off, because cable is easy to run while walls and ceilings are open and awkward once they're sheeted. Total Comfort is one local team for electrical, heating and cooling, based in Altona Meadows. Sunshine North is outside our core area, so send the address and we'll confirm availability before anything is booked.

Every installation is different. We start with the symptoms, existing equipment and access, then explain the work needed and the options available.

    Homes in Sunshine North

    Established houses mid-renovation

In an older house, the switchboard and the cable behind the walls rarely match what a new kitchen or open-plan living area asks of them. You might find rewireable fuses, one safety switch covering the power points and nothing else, and circuits extended room by room over the years. Energy Safe Victoria says the wiring should be checked if a house was built more than 30 years ago. We look at the cable, the board and the main supply together, then tell you whether a partial rewire, a full rewire or a new board is the sensible scope for the renovation.

    Townhouses on former house blocks

Where one house has made way for two or three townhouses, the wiring is new and the switchboard usually has modern protection. The questions change. Builder-grade lighting is often a grid of plain downlights on a single switch, and the air conditioning may be one split in the living area with the bedrooms left to cope on their own. We add circuits, dimmers and better-placed lights, and find spots for extra outdoor units that work with a narrow side path and the windows next door.

    Workshops and business premises

The employment land brings warehouses, workshops and small offices with their own demands. A machine that trips a circuit every time it starts, a work area lit by tired fluorescent battens, or an office that bakes by mid-afternoon are typical of premises like these. We size dedicated circuits around the equipment's actual load, swap old fittings for LED lighting that suits the task, and install split or bulkhead systems for offices and lunchrooms. Tell us the trading hours and a site contact, and any shutdown is agreed with you first.

Heating and cooling in Sunshine North

Older houses here commonly have a gas space heater in the lounge or a ducted gas system added years ago, with a split or two bolted on for summer. Townhouses usually run on splits alone. If you're renovating, place the indoor units at the same time as you plan the lighting, so pipes and cables can go inside the walls rather than across them. Victorians use more energy heating than cooling, so the Victorian Government suggests choosing a unit with higher heating efficiency.

    Local notes

Part of the City of Brimbank

Brimbank's community profile lists Sunshine North among the council's suburbs, alongside Sunshine, Albion and Ardeer. A Victorian Electoral Commission profile of the municipality describes established suburbs such as Sunshine, St Albans and Deer Park as characterised by pre- and post-war homes. Sunshine North borders Sunshine, but two houses built in the same decade can have very different wiring, so we treat a home's age as a reason to check, never as a diagnosis.

    Heat health warnings cover Brimbank

The Department of Health places Brimbank in the Central forecast district for heat health warnings, which it issues in response to a new Bureau of Meteorology severe or extreme heatwave warning. Its advice before extreme heat includes checking that your fan and air conditioner work well and having the air conditioner serviced if needed. A split that laboured through last summer is worth looking at in spring, not on the first scorching afternoon.

How many hot days to plan for

The Bureau of Meteorology's Laverton station, south-west of Sunshine North, averages 27.0 days a year at or above 30 °C and 9.4 days at or above 35 °C, most of them between December and February. A west-facing living room with big windows feels every one of those days. We size a split for the room's sun and heat load, not just its floor area, and confirm the circuit can carry it.

Local information and practical answers before you arrange a visit.

Before the plans are final, and well before the plasterer. Bring the proposed lighting and appliance layout to the first discussion: where the oven, cooktop, rangehood and any air conditioners will go, and where you want lights and power points. That lets us check board capacity, plan cable routes and place indoor units in one go. Cabling run at the frame stage is neater and far less disruptive than chasing walls later.

    • Couldn't be happier with Total Comfort Electrical & Air. I had a few quotes for the same job, but found some were extremely overpriced and others were quite pushy without really explaining why the work needed to be done. Aaron was completely different. He took his time, explained the job in detail, gave me more than one option and made sure I actually understood what I was paying for. He was extremely easy to deal with, did a great job and left everything clean and tidy. His price was competitive and the quality of the work was fantastic. It's honestly great to find a reliable tradesman who you can trust. Would definitely recommend Aaron and Total Comfort Electrical & Air!

    • 10/10 experience with these guys. Aaron did a fantastic job with the electrical work at my property and even gave me some spare light bulbs. He's a true gentleman and absolutely fantastic with kids. My daughter was so impressed she now wants to be an electrician! 😂 Highly recommend Aaron and the team!

    • Aaron was exceptional, I couldn't recommend him highly enough! He recently did some work at our house and was knowledgeable, tidy and genuinely lovely to have around. Our three year old followed him around for practically the entire day, and he was so patient and kind, happily chatting with her while he worked. We're so happy with everything he did and wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

    • Fantastic job today. Aaron arrived on time (was accurate in how long it would take), very professional, explaining everything as he went. Gave me extra tips on what to do in the future with my appliances. Best of all, he did a really good job (and really nice bloke). Would highly recommend.

    • Aaron did a great job of replacing a faultilt installed aircon on a 3 story townhouse. This wasn't a straightforward install given the property & there were suspected old leaks and further tests had to be done. He has many years of experience and talks you through it, manages the process and manages the expectations, timing delivery etc of more complex issues. He's really knowledgeable at what he does, and I got a free consult generally on my home and what would increase efficiencies in my home across the board. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, for the attention to detail and care you put into the work.

    • Aaron was super professional, did a fantastic job fixing my switchboard which was left in a complete mess by the solar / battery installers. Also installed an EV Charger, ceiling fans and replaced a split system. He didn't rush any part of the electrical works and was completely thorough and asked where and how I wanted everything installed.
